Artist Spotlight: Kristopher James

10 Dec Artist Spotlight: Kristopher James

On Sunday, December 27th, 2015, Kristopher James will be performing for the three year anniversary of the Coexist through Music Series at Ruby’s Elixir to benefit Operation Coexist.

How old were you when you started playing music and how long have you been a musician?

When I was 15 a group of my friends wanted to start a band … I lied and told them I played drums. Fast forward to a booked show with 3 days’ notice my stepdad bought me my first set and taught me 4 on the floor! I was hooked. Since then I learned how to play acoustic guitar and sing a bit. Music became the way I expressed myself, shaped my worldview and opened my world to people I am forever grateful for.

How would you describe your music? What projects are you currently working on with your music?

That’s a hard one for most musicians to answer … Not at all easy on this end. Singer-songwriter meets a bit of blues with a dash of folky country emotionalism? Currently I’m working on crossing the Ts and dotting the Is on a 5 song EP out Spring 2016.

How has music changed your life?

How has it NOT changed my life. Music has engulfed every part of my life. Become not only a soundtrack that helps mold who we are but influences and inspires us. In whatever circumstance, music is our partner, helping us and guiding us.

Why do you believe it is important for all kids to have access to music education?

Regardless of the countless studies tied to the progression and development of kids … As my life can reflect, the roots of enrichment run deep! From lifelong friends to building confidence and excellence in the practice of music!

How many Operation Coexist events have you performed in throughout the past three years? What is your favorite part about being a part of these shows?

This will be the second time I’ve had the privilege of being a part of an OC event! The first was last year’s event at Hideaway Cafe. It was a joy and an inspiration to meet some of the kids but to also see their talent showcased! My favorite part is the investment! Whatever part that is played is in favor of furthering the musical experience and influence of a coming generation.
